DWIH São Paulo Online Talks - “Shaping the future of society and higher education”

The covid-19 pandemic brought about a series of social transformations, overnight. Offices, stores and schools had to be closed. People transformed their homes into places to work, enjoy leisure, and to pursue an education – all at the same time. From all of this experience, which transformations will remain, especially in the area of higher education, and what is its legacy for future generations?

The German Centre for Research and Innovation (DWIH) São Paulo has invited Professors Daniel Martins de Barros and Marcelo Parreira do Amaral to respond to these and other questions during a debate on the post-pandemic future: “Shaping the future of society and higher education”, September 14, at 2:00 p.m (CET) or at 9:00 a.m (BRT). This will be the third session of the DWIH São Paulo series of Online Talks “Surviving, Living and Shaping the Future in the Time of Covid-19”.

Known for his collaboration with the Bem-Estar (Well-Being) program on Globo Network TV, Daniel Martins de Barros, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the School of Medicine of the University of (USP), will deal with the consequences of the pandemic in human behavior. “Right from the beginning, it was clear that the propagation of covid-19 and its consequences, such as the quarantine, were not only creating new problems, but also increasing previous difficulties. So, this is an opportunity: shall we use this magnifying glass to examine our problems and look for solutions? The answer to this question will shape our future,” Barros points out.

The Professor of the Education Institute of the University of Münster (WWU), in Germany, Brazilian Marcelo Parreira do Amaral, will discuss the heritage of the novel coronavirus in building a new higher education. “The presentation will deal with the dominant imaginations and fabrications of the “future” of universities, research, and education, which are being thought about, such as a “digitalized future”, he explained.

The event will be moderated by Professor Marcos Buckeridge, Director of the Biosciences Institute of the University of (IB-USP).
